New Salem’s Tom Carey, III will make a return to the Late Model division at Thompson Speedway Motorsports Park to run for points. He told 22News that he is also planning some events this season on the American Canadian Tour. Carey, III started out the season last weekend at Richmond Raceway in Virginia for the Commonwealth Classic where he finished in sixth place.
Carey, III told 22News that the start to the 2018 season at Thompson Speedway Motorsports Park was rough.
“We waded the car up a couple of times. The first few times out and then ended up dealing with some motor issues and by the time we got that all straighten out. We were just building up from that point on and by the end of the year. We had a really good package. We were fast,” said Carey, III.
This year for the 2019 season at Thompson Speedway Motorsports Park, the track will have 10 races on the oval. Carey, III was a little surprised by that.
“I’ve been saying for a long time. I think 10 races would be better off than seven. I don’t like to having race all the time there because it’s nice we get to bounce around but I feel like 10 races is enough to where it’s kind of being close to the sweet spot to where you can have a couple of bad races and still be in the championship fight,” said Carey, III.
Carey, III hopes to be contending for a championship in the Late Model division at Thompson Speedway Motorsports Park at season’s end and hope to win some races during the season. Carey, III did win one race last September at the 5/8 mile oval.
The 25 lap Late Model feature will be held during Icebreaker weekend at Thompson Speedway Motorsports Park on Sunday.
