‘The Bike Man’ delivers 50 bikes to Hartford Elementary School students

Bob Charland, better known as “Bob the Bike Man” has once again delivered bikes to deserving children.

With his escort of local and State Police, Charland left Springfield to deliver 50 bikes to boys and girls at a Hartford Elementary School.

“I thought I’d come down and help him out today, I had the day off and that’s why I’m here,” said Chicopee Police Sergeant Stephen Fopp.

A journey he’s made to more than a dozen schools in Springfield, Chicopee, and Holyoke.

“Kids idea of police nowadays is very poor, so now if they see the positive side of law enforcement and what these officers and troopers want to do, it may help the police,” Charland told 22News.

Thursday, Charland was accompanied by members of the Connecticut State Police. Police officers are proud to accompany Bob ‘The Bike Man.’

“Bob and I have been friends for over a decade,” said trooper Brin Warenda of the Connecticut State Police. “He asked me to be part of it, and I jumped right on it, such a great cause.”

Charland suffers from a degenerative brain disease and with his remaining time he wants to help as many children as possible.
