U.S. Marshals join search for escaped Enfield inmate

Connecticut

ENFIELD, Conn. (AP) – Connecticut prison officials are searching for an inmate who walked off a program at a local community college.

The state Department of Corrections says 45-year-old Christopher Somsky, of Westport, walked off Asnuntuck Community College in Enfield Saturday. Campus security reported to prison officials Somsky was unaccounted for around 2 p.m.

Somsky is an inmate at the Willard-Cybulski Correctional Institution in Enfield and had been taking part in an approved day program at the college.

Prison officials consider Somsky a low-risk offender. He’s serving a maximum nine-year sentence for second-degree robbery handed down in 2015.

All community-based educational and work furloughs have been suspended pending a thorough review.

State and local police have been notified and an alert has been issued through the state’s public alert system. The Enfield prison has also been placed on lockdown.

U.S. Marshals have also joined the search effort and are offering a monetary reward for information leading to Somsky’s apprehension.
