SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – One person has died following a shooting inside Saga on Worthington Street Sunday night.

According to Springfield Police Spokesperson Ryan Walsh, police were called to the business around 10:40 p.m. Sunday for a report of shots fired inside the club. When police arrived, they found a man inside the bathroom that had died from a gunshot wound.

The Hampden County District Attorney’s Office has identified the victim as 30-year-old David Carrasquillo of Springfield.

Mayor Sarno addressed the shooting Monday afternoon, questioning the security at the establishment and has ordered entertainment and licensing hearings on the violence that occurred at the Saga club.

“My sympathy, thoughts, prayers and encouragement go out to the victim’s family and friends.  More senseless gun violence and the loss of a life. If establishments are not going to operate properly, I/We will move to shut them down in the name of the public’s health and safety. The owner of Saga Lounge has agreed to turn in his license while our investigation proceeds. I remain hopeful that our Springfield Police Department will hunt down the culprit(s) and bring them to justice and that our court system will hold them and keep them off our streets and out of our neighborhoods.”

Springfield Mayor Domenic Sarno

22News returned to the club Tuesday morning and found a memorial set up for Carrasquillo. Candles were placed at the entrance and along the sidewalk.

The Springfield Police Homicide Unit and the DA’s Murder Unit are investigating the deadly shooting. Anyone with information can anonymously text-a-tip to CRIMES (274637) by texting SOLVE then your tip.
