150 baggies of heroin seized after foot chase in West Springfield

WEST SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – An alleged heroin dealer was arrested in West Springfield after a month-long investigation by police and the FBI Western Massachusetts Gang Task Force.

According to West Springfield police, detectives met at a location on Memorial Avenue Thursday afternoon after learning that Santiago Vazquez would be conducting a drug deal there.

Vazquez allegedly took off on foot once detectives moved in. While running, West Springfield police say Vazquez threw 100 packages of “Fire” heroin onto the roof of a nearby business. He was eventually caught and taken into custody after loosing his flip flops during the chase.

West Springfield police report finding 50 more packages of heroin in Vazquez’s possession, as well as $903 in cash.

Vazquez is now facing a charge of possession to distribute a Class A drug.
