19-year-old seriously injured in Berkshire County shooting; 1 arrested


A Pittsfield man has been arrested in connection with an early morning shooting in Berkshire County.

According to Massachusetts State Police Spokesperson David Procopio, at approximately 1 a.m., police were called to New Lenox Road at Ashley Lake in Washington for a reported shooting. 

Procopio said when police got there, they found a 19-year-old man from Cheshire with a life-threatening shooting injury. He was taken to Berkshire Medical Center for treatment and as of Tuesday afternoon was in critical condition.

Police later arrested 19-year-old Kevin Nieves, of Pittsfield, and charged him with one count of armed assault with intent to murder, one count of illegal possession of a firearm, kidnapping, and assault and battery. He’s scheduled to be arraigned in Central Berkshire District Court Wednesday morning.

Police are still looking into what led up to the shooting. Anyone with information is asked to call state police detectives at 413-499-1112.
