WEST SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – West Springfield police have released new information regarding the incident that led to a multi-agency search for a suspect in Agawam Tuesday.
According to West Springfield police, officers were called to the Squires Apartments on Westfield Street at around 9:00 a.m. for a report of an armed robbery/ home invasion. Police say two armed men and a woman left the apartment in two cars, one of which was the victim’s car.
West Springfield police were able to box in one of the suspect cars after a 2-mile pursuit. The driver, Amber Beattie, of Chicopee, was taken into custody without incident. Her passenger, Anthony Zeno, allegedly got out of the car and started running.
Police say Zeno eventually got into the Westfield River and made it across the water to Agawam. West Springfield and Agawam police, along with Massachusetts State Police and a Springfield K-9 unit, searched the area along the river for about an hour before finding and arresting Zeno along the bank.
West Springfield police said officers recovered a firearm believed to have been thrown from the suspects’ car during the chase.
Zeno and Beattie have been charged with home invasion while armed, armed robbery while masked, assault by means of a dangerous weapon (firearm), larceny over $1,200, and larceny of a motor vehicle.
The home invasion victim’s car was later found on Longhilll Street. West Springfield police are continuing to investigate the incident and say the identity of the second male suspect “is imminent.”
