Two Northampton women were arraigned in court Wednesday in connection with a dead burning body found in Hatfield on March 10.

Mary Carey of the Northwestern District Attorney’s office said 22-year-old Alondra Gil, and 22-year-old Mercedes Diaz-Wright were both indicted on separate charges by a Hampshire County Grand Jury on Tuesday.

The DA’s office explained that Gill was indicted on alleged perjury charges, and Diaz-Wright for allegedly misleading a police officer in the investigation into the death of 44-year-old Daniel Cruz, whose burning dead body, was found in Hatfield.

The two were arrested and taken into custody after their indictment on Tuesday.

Bail was set at $3,500 cash for Gil, with a pre-trial hearing scheduled for June 23. Bail without prejudice was set at $10,000 cash for Diaz-Wright. She will return to court on May 16 for a bail hearing.

The DA’s office said the investigation into the death of Cruz is ongoing.
