FLATONIA, Texas (KXAN) — Fayette County K-9 Lobos sniffed out about $2.1 million-worth of methamphetamine on Friday.

He and his handler Sgt. Randy Thumann were near mile marker 658 on eastbound Interstate 10 near Flatonia when Thumann pulled over a Saturn SUV around 11:06 a.m. After talking with the driver and passenger, Thumann said there were conflicting details in their travel itinerary that made him suspect they were driving drugs from Mexico to Houston.

Lobos was given permission to search the vehicle and he found 21 kilograms of methamphetamine hidden in the gas tank.

Mercedes Galvan, 26, and Ilse Solis, 24, from Laredo were both taken to jail and face felony charges of possession of a controlled substance.
