Ongoing investigation near Exit 3 in Chicopee

Procopio said the trooper who observed the shooting was behind the suspects’ Honda Accord on I-91 North near Exit 6 when it pulled up even to the victim’s Ford F-150. After seeing a gun protrude from the truck’s passenger window and hearing multiple gunshots, Procopio said the trooper activated his lights and attempted to pull over the suspects.

The suspects’ car eventually crashed into a guardrail when exiting I-391 in Chicopee. Fraticelli and Luis Cotto were arrested at gunpoint after taking off on foot. Keith Cotto was taken into custody Monday after seeking treatment for injuries he suffered in his attempt to get away.

Procopio said troopers seized a loaded Glock 19 handgun reported stolen out of Enfield, Connecticut, inside the suspects’ car and a Taurus 9 handgun that was found on the ground in the woods.

Springfield police found the victim of the shooting in the area of Union Station at the intersection of Dwight Street and Franklin B. Murray Street. He was taken to Baystate Medical Center with serious injuries and remains in ‘dire condition.’

The three suspects are facing the following charges:

  • Armed assault with intent to murder
  • Assault and battery with a dangerous weapon
  • Unlawful possession of a firearm (2 counts)
  • Unlawful possession of ammunition

Charges are expected to be upgraded if the victim dies from his injuries.
