3 arrested on gun, drug charges after Springfield traffic stop

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Springfield police officers recovered a firearm, drugs, and made three arrests during a traffic stop early Thursday morning.

Springfield Police Department spokesman Ryan Walsh told 22News a car was pulled over on East Columbus Avenue after officers observed it idling and then pulling into a closed gas station.

Walsh said the driver, 19-year-old Brayan Mejias, was taken into custody after it was determined he had approximately 4 grams of crack cocaine in his possession, as well as a digital scale.

Mejias’ passengers, 19-year-old Jiovanny Delrio and 18-year-old Belkis Santiago, were also arrested.

Walsh said Delrio had crack cocaine in his possession as well as more than $900 in his fanny pack. Officers also allegedly recovered a loaded firearm and 37 bags of heroin in the backseat between Delrio and Santiago.
