7 officers exposed to powder at Hartford drug bust scene, 2 suspects in custody

HARTFORD, Conn. (WTNH) – Seven police officers have been exposed to a powder at a drug bust scene in Hartford midday Thursday.

Hartford Police Assistant Chief Rafael Medina confirms to News 8 that officers were on the scene of a drug bust in the area of 373 and 375 Garden Street when they were exposed to some kind of powder.

Officials say five of the officers are with the Hartford Police Department and the other two are with Connecticut State Police.

Two of the officers were taken to a local hospital for treatment and two suspects have been taken into custody.

Medina said police have yet to determine what that powder is. Part of Garden Street is shut down while a building has been evacuated and is being decontaminated.
