Accused hit-and-run driver in court for deadly Amherst crash


NORTHAMPTON, Mass. (WWLP) – A pre-trial hearing Wednesday for a Belchertown man accused of a deadly hit-and-run pedestrian crash in downtown Amherst last year.

20-year-old Peter Sheremeta pleaded not guilty last May to motor vehicle homicide and drunk driving manslaughter in the crash that killed 55-year-old William Wanczyk.

Accused hit-and-run driver indicted on manslaughter, other charges

Police said Sheremeta’s pickup truck was speeding when it struck Wanczyk, who was waiting at the bus shelter at 141 North Pleasant Street in Amherst.

Sheremeta’s being held on $100,000 cash bail until his next court date, January 30th.
