According to court documents, the infant was taken to Baystate Noble Hospital Saturday afternoon, where she had to be resuscitated at least six times before being transferred to Baystate Medical Center In Springfield.
Her father, 28-year-old Daniel Torres, was ordered held on $1 million bail Monday during his arraignment on charges of assault and battery on a child with substantial injury, assault and battery, reckless endangerment of a child, and intimidate witness/juror/police/court official.
Torres was allegedly alone with the victim while the mother was at work. According to the police report, Torres initially told officers he didn’t know how his daughter sustained her injuries. The father later allegedly told police he accidentally struck the victim while playing with her on the floor and slapped her in a fit of frustration.
It wasn’t allegedly until several hours later that Torres called 911 for help.
The victim’s injuries, according to the statement of facts report, were consistent with abuse trauma. This included bruises on her head and “three long red marks across the right side of the infant’s forehead that are consistent with a hand print.”
22News left a message with the D.A.’s office to see whether Torres’ charges have been upgraded.
