Chicopee man arrested in connection with Springfield shooting


SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Springfield police have made an arrest in connection with a shooting last fall. 

Springfield Police Department spokesman Ryan Walsh told 22News, 32-year-old Hector Gomez was taken into custody at his home on East Main Street in Chicopee early Tuesday morning.

Gomez is accused of shooting a man near the intersection of Fort Pleasant Avenue and Forest Park Avenue on September 11. The victim survived his injuries.

Police: Man taken to hospital after shooting in Springfield

Gomez is scheduled to be arraigned in Springfield District Court Tuesday on charges of:

  • Assault to murder
  • Assault and battery with a dangerous weapon
  • Carrying a firearm without a license (second offense)
  • Discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a building
