Chicopee man charged with attempted murder in connection with Holyoke shooting


HOLYOKE, Mass. (WWLP) – A Chicopee man is facing an attempted murder charge after he allegedly shot a woman in Holyoke.

Holyoke Police Lt. Jim Albert told 22News officers were called to 9 Gates Street in Holyoke for a reported shooting on Wednesday, when they found a woman with a gunshot wound to her arm.

A warrant was then issued for the suspect, 30-year-old Joshua Kogut, of Chicopee.

Kogut was taken into custody Friday afternoon by the Massachusetts State Police Violent Fugitive Apprehension Unit at the Hampden County Courthouse.

He is scheduled to be arraigned in Holyoke District Court Monday on the following charges:

  • Attempted murder
  • Discharging a firearm within 500 ft of a dwelling
  • Wanton destruction of property over $1,200
  • Assault and battery with a dangerous weapon
