Police were called to the area of Plante Circle for a reported home invasion that led to an officer-involved shooting Monday evening.
Chicopee Police spokesman officer Mike Wilk told 22News the call about the home invasion at Plante Circle came in around 7 p.m.
Wilk said at some point of the investigation, “our officers were involved in a foot pursuit which took them to the area of 203 Center St.”
During the chase, Wilk told 22News one officer engaged with one of the alleged suspects and discharged his firearm. The person shot was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. Their condition is currently unknown.
The number of shots fired is also unknown and investigators are trying to figure out what led the officer to fire his weapon. Wilk told 22News it is unclear if more than one person was involved in the home invasion on Plante Circle. “It could be multiple people,” he said at a news conference.
Officers are still at the Plante Circle home where the invasion was initially reported. All Chicopee officers involved are “okay” Wilk told 22News.
Center St. was closed between South and Union Streets, while State Police attached to the Hampden District Attorney’s Office looked into the incident.
