Chicopee PD: Walmart on Memorial Drive reopened after possible bomb threat

A possible bomb threat at the Walmart on Memorial Drive caused an evacuation Thursday evening.

The store reopened at 7 p.m.

Chicopee police spokesman Mike Wilk told 22News officers were called to the store around 3:40 p.m. after an alleged store employee made comments about “blowing up the place” while on the phone with the Pharmacy Department.

Wilk said it has not yet been confirmed whether the caller is indeed an employee.

Officer Wilk explained that the caller was on the phone with someone from the store’s Pharmacy Department and didn’t like the answers they were getting.

That was when the comment about the bomb threat came in.

Wilk said for precautionary reasons, the store was evacuated to make sure everyone was safe.
