A Chicopee woman was arrested Saturday for allegedly driving drunk with a nine-year-old child in the car.
Chicopee Police Officer Mike Wilk told 22News, 32-year-old Kerri Odea has been charged with:
- Operating under the influence of alcohol
- Negligent operation of a motor vehicle
- Child endangerment while operating under the influence
- Operating an unregistered motor vehicle
Odea was arrested after police received a report of a car accident in the area of 957 Chicopee Street at 4:30 p.m.
Wilk said when officers got to the accident, they were alerted to someone attempting to help Odea conceal the smell of alcohol on her breath. Officers then allegedly noticed the smell of alcohol, slurred speech, and her inability to focus on questions.
Police say a nine-year-old passenger was in the car with seat belt marks and air bag burns to her chest. The child was treated by EMT’s, and when her mother got there, she was taken to the hospital.
Wilk said Odea admitted to drinking alcohol before the crash. She allegedly blew a breathalyzer reading of .23% at the police station.
Odea was released on personal recognizance and a $40 fee.
She will be arraigned Monday morning in District Court.
