Two robbery suspects are in police custody after allegedly following two victims and stealing their purses Wednesday.

Chicopee Police spokesman Officer Mike Wilk told 22News 25-year-old Alexandria Genereux and 26-year-old William Remillard are facing the following charges:

  • WMS warrant
  • Operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license
  • Unarmed robbery on a person over 60-years-old
  • Possession of cocaine

On December 26, police say a woman reported being followed from a gas station and after parking and exiting her car in the Rose Street area, an unknown man allegedly ran up, opened her back door, stole her purse and took off.

On December 27, Officer Wilk said a similar incident took place on Mitchell Drive, where the suspect allegedly knocked on a second victim’s car window and when the window was rolled down, their purse was also taken.

Both victims told police the suspect drove away in an SUV.

A vehicle matching the description given to police was spotted on East Main Street while officers were investigating the unarmed robberies, Wilk said.

Officers in the area waited, observed the SUV and matched the suspects to the description as they drove by.

After stopping the SUV, police say they saw a small baggie of white powder, believed to be cocaine.

Wilk said as the passenger of the SUV attempted to exit the car, “he pretended to ‘trip’ as he tried to kick the cocaine out of view.”

The two were arrested and taken to Chicopee Police headquarters.

Bail was set at $540.
