Chicopee police officer charged with indecent assault and battery

A Chicopee police officer has been placed on administrative duties pending the result of an investigation into an off-duty incident at a Holyoke bar.

According to a criminal complaint provided to 22News by Holyoke District Court, Chicopee Police Officer Jacek Wanat has been charged with three counts of indecent assault and battery on a person 14 or over in connection with the March 11 incident.

Wanat was released on multiple conditions, including that he does not contact the alleged victim, he stays away from the bar, and that he remains alcohol free.

Chicopee Police Officer Mike Wilk told 22News Wanat has also had his duty weapon taken away from him pending the outcome of the investigation.

Wilk said Chicopee Police Chief William Jebb has been made aware of the allegations against Wanat, and has been fully cooperative.

The Chicopee Police Department Internal Affairs deputy chief is also looking into the incident.
