A Chicopee woman was arrested early Saturday morning after she allegedly drove under the influence of alcohol for the second time.
Chicopee Police Officer Mike Wilk told 22News, at 2:30 a.m. an officer was on patrol when he saw a car directly in front of him drifting side to side and crossing over both the yellow and while solid lines.
Wilk said the driver of the car then sped up to 60 miles per hour and ran a red light. The officer pulled over the driver who was later identified as 40-year-old Daisy Arroyo.
When the officer approached the car he allegedly saw a beer bottle three-fourths of the way full in the cup holder. Wilk said the officer also noticed Arroyo was slurring her speech, had glassy eyes, and smelled alcohol coming from her.
Arroyo was arrested based on sobriety tests the officer asked her to perform.
She is facing the following charges:
- a second offense of operating under the influence of alcohol
- marked lanes violation
- failure to stop for a red light
- negligent operation of a motor vehicle
- possession of an open container of alcohol in a motor vehicle
Arroyo was taken to the Chicopee Police Department where Wilk said her blood alcohol test revealed she was over two times the legal limit of .08. She was later released on $540 bail.
