A Connecticut couple that left an infant on a cold sidewalk is facing child abandonment charges.

Hartford Police say 22-year-old Kenya Anderson and 55-year-old Eddie Stevens had been arguing outside a laundromat Friday night when they walked away, leaving a 6-week-old infant in a carrier on the sidewalk for a half an hour.

Police say a woman in the laundromat eventually took the baby inside and called police because it was only 34 degrees Fahrenheit (1 degree Celsius) outside.

Police say Anderson appeared intoxicated and told the woman in the laundromat to keep the child. Stevens was arrested at his mother’s house nearby.

The baby is currently in the custody of the state Department of Children and Families. The two were arraigned Monday and released pending their next court dates.
