EW BEDFORD, Mass. (WPRI) — A New Bedford man was arrested Tuesday in connection with a weekend crash that claimed the life of his passenger.

Jeremia Medina, 28, is expected to be arraigned Tuesday afternoon on a charge of leaving the scene of personal injury, according to the Bristol County District Attorney’s Office.

The DA’s office said Medina was driving on Nauset Street just after 1 a.m. Sunday when he apparently lost control of his vehicle, struck two jersey barriers and spun out before the vehicle caught fire.

Masyn Bleheen, 18, who was in the passenger seat, was pulled from the burning vehicle by nearby residents and rushed to the hospital, where he died a short time later.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation but the DA’s office said excessive speed appeared to be a factor.

The DA’s office said more information on the crash will be released at Medina’s arraignment.
