Easthampton police dog given ‘clean bill of health’ after crash with alleged drunk driver

EASTHAMPTON, Mass. (WWLP) – Easthampton police dog Gino has been given a ‘clean bill of health’ following a car crash involving an alleged drunk driver earlier this week.

According to Easthampton police, the vet found that Gino has some bruising, but no other serious issues.

Gino and two police officers were in a marked cruiser Wednesday night when 24-year-old Nicholas Bilger crashed into them.

Bilger is now facing his second OUI offense as well as multiple other motor vehicle charges.

Easthampton Police Chief Robert Alberti said Gino had to be extricated from the damaged cruiser after the crash. The two officers in the cruiser also received minor injuries.

“K9 Gino and the Officers involved in this incident are very very fortunate,” police wrote on Facebook. “We here at the EPD appreciate all of the kind words and support from our community and beyond!”
