Family, friends gather to remember community activist Jafet Robles

Jafet Robles murder remains unsolved, but this week the Hampden County District Attorney’s Office appealed to the public for help identifying a car potentially related to the killing.

“He went to go pick up his daughter, unfortunately, he never made it,” said Robles’ friend Yolanda Cancel. “Then somebody from the parks department found him that morning.”

Family and friends of Jafet Robles walked from Szot Park, where hacktivists’ body was found a year ago, to Chicopee Police Headquarters.

Cancel said, “a lot of us cannot close this chapter in our life until we find out, until it rests. And we cannot sleep until we find out what happened, and we will continue doing this.”

Dozens of people came together for the walk, some wearing shirts that said “R.I.P.” with Robles’ face on it. His mother and sister said they expected a lot of people would come.

“It’s not a surprise because he left an impact on the lives of many people,” said Robles’ sister, Rebeca Suarez. “That’s just who he was.”

“It didn’t matter who it was, he thought everybody could be a star,” Robles’ mother told 22News. “Being here is keeping his memory alive, and striving to get justice for him.”

The DA’s Office has asked for the public’s help identifying a vehicle (see photo above) seen in the area the night before Robles’ body was found.

It’s believed Robles was murdered that night.
