Former UMass football player sentenced in Hadley rape case

NORTHAMPTON, Mass (WWLP) – A former UMass football player found guilty on three counts of rape, was sentenced to prison Thursday. 

According to Northwestern District Attorney’s Office spokesperson Mary Carey, 23-year-old Patrick K. Amara Jr. of Georgia was sentenced to five years followed by three years of probation by Judge Mark Mason in Hampshire Superior Court.

Amara was found guilty of raping a young woman at a party in Hadley on April 30, 2016.

Carey said Amara will also be requested to do the following:

“Amara will also be required to register as a sex offender, participate in sex offender evaluation and counseling as well as substance abuse evaluation, with recommended follow-up including that he remain alcohol free, if in treatment; abide by all active restraining orders, stay away from and have no contact with the victim and to provide a DNA sample.”
