Gunman shot during restaurant standoff

An attempted robbery turned into a crime spree and hostage standoff Sunday in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

Police say officers responded to a call of the ongoing robbery shortly before 1 p.m. before the suspect fled the store and broke into a nearby residence. After fleeing that area, the unidentified suspect “either shot at a car, hit that car or tried to carjack that car,” according to Albuquerque Police spokesman Simon Drobik.

The suspect eventually ended up at Lin’s Grand Buffet. About 80 people were inside at the time, and SWAT soon arrived at the scene.

After a brief standoff, officers moved in, shooting the suspect. He survived, and was taken to a nearby hosital.
