CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – Chicopee police arrested a man who they say broke into a woman’s apartment Wednesday night.

Chicopee Police Officer Mike Wilk told 22News the victim reported that she returned to her Front Street apartment just before 9:00 p.m. and discovered that her door had been removed from its hinges. When she went inside, she allegedly confronted a man who was walking around with a flashlight.

Wilk said the suspect, later identified as 29-year-old Relando Lee Perkins, told the victim he heard a loud bang and wanted to be a good neighbor by going to check it out.

Perkins was arrested after it was determined several items were missing from the apartment. He is now facing charges of breaking and entering in the nighttime for a felony, and larceny from a building.

Perkins was held on $1,040 bail and was due in court Thursday morning.
