Man arrested after 31 bags of heroin discovered in a fanny pack

A man was arrested in Springfield Friday after police allegedly found 31 bags of heroin.

According to Springfield Police Spokesperson Ryan Walsh, officers were called to a parking lot at 45 Maple Street at 4:30 p.m. for a report of a disturbance. 

Walsh said when officers got there they saw a man, later identified as 30-year-old Alexander Hernandez, attempt to make a drug transaction. 

When police arrested Hernandez they allegedly saw 31 bags of heroin and $43 in cash inside a partially opened fanny pack. 

Hernandez is charged with the intent to distribute a class A drug.
