Man arrested in Springfield for allegedly breaking into a church Monday

SPRINGFIELD, Mass (WWLP) – Springfield Police Department arrested a man for allegedly breaking into church on Monday morning. 

According to Springfield Police Department’s spokesman Ryan Walsh, 38-year-old Carlos Vergara broke into Iglesia Mansion Celestial Pentecostal Church on Andrew Street around 2:00 a.m. through a window.

Walsh told 22News that Vergara tried to run and officers arrested him outside the building. 

Police say he tried to steal a laptop that was part of the Church’s sound equipment. 

Vergara is being charged with breaking and entering a building at night, possession of a burglarious instrument, and larceny under $1,200.
