A 19-year-old man is facing charges after he allegedly hit a police officer Friday night.
According to the Williamsburg Police and Fire Department, police were called to a report of an erratic driver just before 9 p.m. Friday.
Police said when officers found the car the man driving refused to cooperate and got back into his car.
The man then allegedly backed up before driving forward and hitting an officer with his car. The officer ordered the man to stop when the man allegedly once again backed up and drove towards the officer.
Police then attempted to arrest the man and the man allegedly fought with the officer, at one point allegedly hitting the officer in the head with a radio.
The man is facing the following charges:
- Operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol
- Operating a motor vehicle without a license
- Negligent operation of a motor vehicle
- Assault and battery on a police officer
- Assault and battery with a dangerous weapon
- Resisting arrest
The passenger of the car was also arrested and is facing charges for disorderly conduct and obstruction of justice after tampering with evidence.
The officer was taken to the hospital for minor injuries where he was treated and sent home.
Both the driver and the passenger were released on personal recognizance and are expected to be in court Tuesday morning.
Police are asking anyone who may have video of the incident to contact police as they are interested in having it as evidence.
