A Springfield man is facing drug and trespassing charges after he was arrested in Chicopee Sunday night.

According to Chicopee Police Officer Mike Wilk told 22News, officers were patrolling on Memorial Drive at 8:20 p.m. when they came upon 28-year-old Michael Cabrera who was pandhandling and began to walk away quickly when he noticed police.

Wilk said one of the officers recognized Cabrera as someone who was wanted for trespassing.

After arresting Cabrera, officers then allegedly found drug paraphernalia consistent with heroin use as well as cotton balls that had heroin residue on them.

After he was taken to the Chicopee Police Department Wilk said officers found more baggies and drug-related paraphernalia.

Cabrera is charged with trespassing and possession of a class A drug. He was held on $540 bail and was arraigned in court Monday morning.
