LAWRENCE, Mass. (WWLP) – A man who was freed from prison after serving 30-years of a life sentence for a rape conviction in Springfield, is now facing new rape charges in Lawrence.

Hampden County District Attorney Anthony Gulluni announced on Friday that 50-year-old George Perrot had been charged with rape.

Recently-released inmate George Perrot in trouble again

Perrot was convicted of raping 78-year-old Mary Prekop in her Springfield home in 1985 based in part on one strand of hair. He was later freed after a judge found an FBI agent’s testimony about microscopic hair evidence was flawed and granted him a new trial.

The new rape charges stem from an incident that police say took place on January 4.

Perrot is scheduled to be arraigned on Monday at the Essex County Superior Court.
