UTICA, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) – The man accused of murdering his grandmother and her landlord said he did so “in the name of Jesus Christ.”

29-year-old Naythen Aubain was arraigned Tuesday night on murder charges.

He is accused of killing his 90-year-old grandmother, Katerine Aubain, and her landlord, 87-year-old Jane Wentka.

During his arraignment on Tuesday, Aubain said, “I chopped her up. I chopped my landlady up too. I’ll chop up anyone who disrespects me.”

When asked why he allegedly killed his grandmother, he said it was because she was touching him sexually, and he had enough of it.

In court he said, “I killed her in the name of the Lord. She tried to get me to do nasty things. I had enough.”

At one point during the preceding,  a dozen corrections officers had to put Aubain in a wheelchair and restrain him. Our sister station in Syracuse, NewsChannel 9’s Josh Martin says he was wearing a “spit bag” in the courtroom– the bags are reserved for those in custody who “can’t keep their saliva to themselves,” according to the Sheriff’s Office.

Katerine Aubain was reported missing on Monday and was later found dead.

Police say Naythen Aubain lived in the apartment with his grandmother. They were called to the residence last year after Naythen allegedly strangled her.

Oneida County District Attorney Scott McNamara says Naythen Aubain will be charged with two counts of first-degree murder.

Police say Naythen Aubain was involved in a car crash on Sunday, and when law enforcement arrived, he told them about a dead body inside a Tilden Avenue residence.

When Utica Police checked on the residence, they found Wentka deceased inside the residence.
