SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – A man has been sentenced to prison time in connection with the 2008 samurai sword stabbing death of 45-year-old Humberto Brindis.

Hampden County District Attorney’s Office spokesman Jim Leydon told 22News that 25-year-old Ismael Rodriguez was sentenced up to 12 years in prison for the killing, after pleading guilty to voluntary manslaughter.

On June 1, 2008, Brindis was found dead on the floor of his apartment at 554 South Street in Holyoke, suffering from a wound caused by a samurai sword he owned.

Rodriguez, who was 15 years-old at the time of the crime, wasn’t arrested until seven years later in 2015.
