A Montague man was sentenced to jail time after being convicted of larceny and carrying a dangerous weapon.

According to Northwestern District Attorney Spokesperson Mary Carey, 58-year-old Brian Ahearn was sentenced to three and half years in the Franklin County House of Correction and two years of probation.

Carey said Ahearn was found guilty of stealing property from an apartment on L Street in turners Falls on November 3, 2016, and having a switchblade in his possession when he was arrested a short time later.

Ahearn was found not guilty of actually breaking into the apartment and carrying two other dangerous weapons, a double-sided knife and brass knuckles, that were in his backpack at the time of his arrest.
