North Carolina guardsman’s home ransacked during hurricane

A Go-Fund-Me campaign is up for a national guardsman who was robbed while he was away helping people in North Carolina dealing with Hurricane Florence.

This isn’t quite the homecoming 24-year-old Luis Ocampo had imagined after serving for days along the North Carolina coast as an Army National Guardsman.

While he was away helping those impacted by Hurricane Florence, he says his home back in Charlotte was robbed.

“I don’t know how people can be such terrible.”

Specialist Ocampo shares that home with his girlfriend Kaylee Finch and their 1-year-old son.

Finch says when she learned of the break in she was shocked.

“It’s our home and knowing that someone watches your home and then breaks in when you’re not there or even if you’re there.”

Fortunately, she and her son were away when the burglars broke in sometime overnight Thursday.

The family believes the suspects snuck in through a back window.

From there, they ransacked the place taking a gun, a large TV, gaming system, a laptop Ocampo uses for schoolwork, and even some speciality coins and jewlery.

“It’s irreplaceable. that’s not something that you can just get back.”

And now this family is left looking for some help of their own.

“I really hope it was worth it to see another family struggle and to watch someone go through what you did to somebody.”
