Authorities have identified the victim of a deadly assault in Ludlow Sunday night.
According to Hampden District Attorney Spokesperson James Leydon, the victim was identified as 54-year-old John Goncalves of Ludlow.
Leydon said the Ludlow police department was called to 306 Sewall Street Sunday for a report of an assault between a father and son.
When police got to the home they found Goncalves incapacitated and took him to Baystate Medical Center where he was declared dead.
Leydon said 27-year-old Joao Goncalves of Ludlow was arrested and charged with assault and battery, two counts of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, and malicious damage to a motor vehicle.
He was arraigned in Palmer District Court on Monday, and his bail was set at $50,000 cash.
Joao’s next scheduled court appearance is July 3.
The incident is under investigation by the Ludlow Police Department, the Massachusetts State Police Detective Unit assigned to the Hampden District Attorney’s Office, the Hampden District Attorney’s Office, and the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.
