Suspect in Orange shooting arrested after barricading himself in Westminster hotel


ORANGE, Mass. (WWLP) – Orange Police are investigating a shooting on Lois Street Friday morning.

Brenda Anderson from the Orange Police Department told 22News, one person suffered a leg injury from the shooting around 9:30 a.m. Friday morning. The suspect was taken to a nearby hospital and is expected to survive according to Northwestern District Attorney Spokesperson Mary Carey.

According to State Police Spokesperson Dave Procopio, around noon The Massachusetts State Police K9 Unit and a Trooper from the MSP Bomb Squad assisted Westminster Police in Worcester County with a man who barricaded themselves in the Rodeway Inn.

The suspect was taken into custody about an hour later around 1:00 p.m. by the Massachusetts State Police Special Tactical Operations (STOP) Team as the bomb squad was preparing to deploy a robot into the room. The suspect left the motel room attempting to enter a motor vehicle before he was arrested.

Police said the man was the suspect in the Orange shooting.

Members of the Massachusetts State Police Special Tactical Operations Team, a Crisis Negotiator, Troop C patrols, and detectives all assisted in the arrest.

Carey says the investigation remains ongoing.
