Police arrest third suspect in connection with assault of two UMass students on campus

The third suspect has been arrested in connection with the assault of two UMass Amherst students during an attempted drug transaction Wednesday afternoon. 

The university’s spokeswoman, Mary Dettloff, told 22News the suspect was arrested by UMass Police on and will likely be arraigned at a later date. 

In total, three suspects are in police custody after the physical altercation that took place on the third floor of Dwight Hall around 2:40 p.m. that Wednesday. 

UMass PD seeking two men who allegedly assaulted students, showed gun during drug deal 

UMass Police determined two students were assaulted at the residence hall following an attempted drug transaction involving marijuana. The incident continued into a parking lot where a gun was allegedly shown by two of the suspects. 

The identities of the three suspects have not been released. 

The two UMass students involved did not need medical attention following the incident.
