SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – A portion of Mill Street in the South End of Springfield was closed Thursday morning as police conducted an investigation in the area.
The roadway was closed between East Columbus Avenue and Main Street, and police have put caution tape around the parking lot of a commercial building.
According to Springfield Police Spokesperson Ryan Walsh, at around 1:35 a.m. officers were called to the 500 block of East Columbus Ave for a report of a gunshot victim. Police found the man and provided first aid. He was taken to Baystate Medical Center where he died due to his injuries.
The investigation is being conducted by the Springfield Police Homicide Unit along with the Hampden District Attorney’s Murder Unit.
