Despite recent initiatives to make Springfield a safer place, violence continued in the city throughout the week, which included two homicides.

One Tuesday a man was stabbed here in Springfield and on Wednesday one person was killed after being shot. 22News spoke with residents living in the area who said they hope things get better in the city soon.

“Hoping that the casino will increase security, improve our neighborhoods and just make it a better place for people especially my age to live in,” said Chip Baye.

Earlier this week, a car was shot at several times near the X,  but Springfield Police Spokesman Ryan Walsh told 22News there were no victims in the shooting.

On Thursday, multiple Springfield police cruisers were called to a house that was shot at on Wilson Street. Walsh told 22News no one was hurt in this incident as well.

On Friday, Walsh confirmed to 22News that a man was found dead under a car in an apartment complex on Maple Street. Police are investigating it as a homicide.

Springfield Mayor Domenic Sarno declined to comment on the recent increase in violence.
