Rookie cops fired after bar room attack

Two rookie New Orleans police officers were arrested and will be fired in connection with an investigation into a fight that happened while they were off duty at a bar.

Officers John Galman and Spencer Sutton will be officially fired Wednesday, a spokesperson for the New Orleans Police Department confirmed.

Galman and Sutton were arrested and charged Tuesday with simple battery. Both graduated from the training academy in December 2017.

Officials said the two officers were off duty, not in uniform, when they were involved in an altercation with a man at Mid-City Yacht Club.

Jorge Gomez, the victim in the attack, says the altercation began as he tried to leave the Mid-City bar, saying that one of the officers said he was a fake American and didn’t believe he was in the military.

Gomez served a tour of duty in Iraq while in the National Guard.

Gomez suffered serious injuries and was taken to a hospital after the attack.
