Springfield police are investigating a deadly shooting in the Liberty Heights neighborhood.
Hampden County District Attorney’s Office spokesman Jim Leydon identified the homicide victim as 38-year-old Timothy Redmond. A dog was also found dead at the home.
Police were at a home on 37 Francis Street all night and throughout the early morning hours Thursday. Leydon added that a significant marijuana growing operation was located inside the house.
Springfield Police Department spokesman Ryan Walsh told 22News Redmond was found in a doorway suffering from multiple gunshot wounds late Wednesday night. He said Redmond died in an ambulance on the way to the hospital.
“My daughter said she heard noise last night, and my boyfriend heard noise last night,” said neighbor Jennifer Luce.
Walsh said their preliminary investigation indicates this is an isolated, targeted incident.
People who live in this area told 22News they are shocked because it’s generally a very quiet neighborhood.
“It’s scary because this neighborhood is really not like that,” said Cassandra Alvardao who lives in the neighborhood. “It’s a quiet neighborhood, people are friendly. So for something like that to transpire, it’s sad.”
“It’s real quiet,” added Luce. “We take the dogs for walks real late at night sometimes. Never heard anything but kids from the school walking by. Other than that, it’s really quiet.”
Thursday morning, our 22News crew could see crime scene tape set up over a large area surrounding a home, where there are nine evidence markers in the front yard.
