Springfield man arrested after assault on Grand Street, ensuing police chase

A Springfield man and two women are facing multiple charges after an alleged assault on Grand Street and an ensuing police chase.

Springfield Police Department spokesman Ryan Walsh told 22News officers were called to Grand Street Thursday afternoon following a ShotSpotter activation. On their way there, Walsh said officers saw a man running in the area of White and Orange Street “holding something weighted in his pants.”

The man, later identified as 27-year-old Kieson Cuffee, was taken into custody after allegedly pulling out a firearm from underneath his clothes at a bodega where officers had followed him, and running from police.

Walsh said while being treated for injuries suffered during the chase and struggle with officers, Cuffee forced his weight on a paramedic and attempted to escape.

“He was then taken to the ground by officers and sustained a laceration to his forehead while struggling with officers in his attempt to flee,” Walsh said.

Walsh told 22News a firearm was recovered from the bodega, and its ammunition allegedly matched the type found on Grand Street.

Walsh said the initial incident on Grand Street involved an assault on a woman who was attacked by two men and two women. Cuffee is accused of pointing his firearm at the victim and stealing her phone. The two woman suspects, 20-year-old Tyanna Dancy and 26-year-old Joyce Ingram, were also arrested.
