Springfield man arrested following hit and run of 3-year-old girl


A Springfield man was arrested Tuesday night after a hit and run accident involving a 3-year-old girl. 

According to Springfield Police Spokesman Ryan Walsh, 32-year-old Edgar Diaz was charged with leaving the scene of a personal injury accident, unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, and having an uninsured motor vehicle. 

Walsh said at approximately 7:15 p.m. police were called to the corner of Massasoit and Montmorenci Streets for reports of a truck hitting a 3-year-old girl.

He said the the girl suffered serious, but non-life threatening injuries.

Diaz was restrained by witnesses when he allegedly ran from his parked truck after the accident.

Walsh said Diaz was found by officers on Lexington Street with injuries to his face. 

Diaz was arrested and then sent to Baystate Meidcal Center.
