SPRINGFIELD, Mass (WWLP) – The Springfield Police Department arrested a man after an investigation into heroin distribution in the city.

According to Springfield Police Departments Spokesman Ryan Walsh, the Strategic Impact Unit arrested 54-year-old Troy Smith, seized 204 bags of heroin, and more than $300 cash Wednesday night.

Walsh told 22News, around 6:00 p.m. detectives saw Smith leave his home on Maynard Street after making several drug sales outside.

Police say they were aware Smith had a suspended license, so they conducted a traffic stop and took him into custody.

Walsh said detectives then searched Smith’s home, where they found the heroin and cash.

Smith is being charged with possession with the intent to distribute heroin and operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license.
