Springfield man facing drug charges after traffic stop in Northampton


A Springfield man is facing several drug-related charges after a traffic stop on Route 9 Sunday night.

State Police said they arrested 26-year-old Calvin Medina after officers found 78 grams of cocaine inside a vehicle he was driving, with two other occupants in the Haydenville Road area at 10:12 p.m.

Medina was driving a red Chevy Blazer and was initially stopped for a motor vehicle violation.

A 21-year-old Springfield man and a 21-year-old Chicopee man were the other passengers inside the vehicle.

Police say Medina was driving with a learner’s permit and both passengers had suspended licenses. Medina was arrested after officers located the drugs and took him to the Northampton Barracks, where he was booked.

He is facing the following charges:

  • Trafficking cocaine
  • Conspiracy to violate drug law
  • Unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle
  • Defective equipment

Bail was set at $1,500. No further details were available.
