Springfield man facing sex assault, child porn charges

Crime

A man from Springfield is facing several child sex abuse charges, after he allegedly uploaded child pornography onto an image and video hosting website.

The Hampden County District Attorney’s Office announced charges against 24 year-old Christean Velazquez on Monday afternoon.

According to the DA’s Office, last Thursday, the website Photobucket.com reported to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children that someone using their service had uploaded images of a sexual assault, and of child pornography. The report was then referred to the Massachusetts State Police detective unit assigned to the Hampden County DA’s office.

The investigators quickly identified Velazquez as their suspect, and he was arrested Friday at his workplace in Springfield.

He was arraigned at Springfield District Court on Monday on the following charges:

  • Two counts, indecent assault and battery on a child under 14 years old
  • Four counts, dissemination of sexually explicit visual materials depicting children
  • Four counts, possession of visual materials of child sexual conduct
  • Four counts, knowingly permitting a child to engage in sexual conduct for reproduction of visual material

Velazquez was ordered held on $75,000 cash bail. If he is released, he will have to wear a GPS monitoring device, and is prohibited from having any contact with the victim.

The DA’s office says that victim is safe and currently staying with relatives. The Massachusetts Department of Children and Families has been notified of the situation.
Velazquez is due back in court on April 22.
